NCC won’t support above-ground western LRT route

OTTAWA – The National Capital Commission is holding a private debate on the City of Ottawa’s proposed western link for Light Rail Transit. The debate is being held Friday.

On Thursday, the City of Ottawa got an earful from the National Capital Commission’s Board of Directors about its latest revision of the western LRT route. The board won’t support an above-ground western route that sees light rail trains touch NCC property.

The latest revision added $80 million in costs, bringing the total price tag for the western link to $980 million.

The city maintains it can’t keep increasing costs; however, it appears the NCC won’t budge unless the line is buried underground.
