The 10th annual Dovercourt Open Skateboarding Slalom has rolled in to Westboro this weekend, and the competition doubles as the Canadian National Championships.
Similar to skiing, boarders head down a hill and have to weave in and out of cones that are set up on the track.
The person with the fastest time is declared the winner but judges can add time penalties to competitors for various things including knocking over cones.
Lisa Pharoh came here from Brampton, Ont., for the race, something she does every year.
“It’s basically go down the hill and get through the cones as fast as you can,” Pharoh said.
Raylene Hill hails from Peterborough, Ont., and says she’s been at it since 2006.
Hill says its been a good start to the event.
“Today was fun… It’s been going great,” Hill said
“It’s all about the fun, its all about the racing and just doing the best you can, I went up point-seven seconds from my first run of the day to the last and I’m happy about that.”
The annual event is sanctioned by the International Slalom Skateboarding Association which holds events all over the world.
The top three in each age division will move on to international competition.
