Boil water advisory for Embrun

EMBRUN, Ont. – Residents of Embrun have been advised to boil water before use.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit told 1310News they discovered a contaminated water sample during routine testing.
“A routine water test came back with possibly contaminated water in the Embrun drinking water system,” Dr. Paul Roumeliotis told 1310News. “It came back contaminated with coliforms and possibly e-coli and not alarming numbers, low numbers, but we do not tolerate even low numbers and we don’t want to take a chance.”
The advisory will remain in effect until there are two clear tests separated by a 24-hour period. They estimate it will be at least 48-hours.
Roumeliotis is the Medical Officer of Health with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit; he explains what to do under the advisory:
“People should be boiling the water to what we call a soft, rolling boil for about a minute then they can drink it, obviously when it’s cooler, Roumeliotis said. “They should also use that water to brush their teeth, clean their vegetables and cook with as well. So, all the water that they consume or put in their mouths should be either bottled water or water that’s been boiled until further notice.”
