Should an emergency occur such as a storm moving through your area there are some things you and your family will need to sustain your family for 72 hours.
Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief of Emergency Management Ontario Allison Stuart offers some suggestions of what to include in your plan.
“In that you’ll be thinking about what to have if there’s no power. Have our battery operated or wind up radio going so we can find out what’s going on out there.”
Important items to include in your kit should be any medications, food you can eat without a heat source, a can opener, a change of clothes and some toys for little ones Stuart told 1310News.
Also remember to have a means to support anyone with physical challenges.
Another good idea is to pick a room in the house to meet, usually the basement or a room in the centre of the house.
Stuart adds if you have time you should check on animals and secure anything outdoors.
