Competition Tribunal turns down complaint against credit card giants

OTTAWA – The Competition Tribunal has rejected a complaint against Visa and Mastercard.

The Competition Bureau launched the complaint, arguing that rules imposed by the credit card giants are too restrictive for merchants, and that the fees charged for accepting the cards are among the highest in the world.

But the tribunal dismissed the case Tuesday, saying the reasons for its decision are confidential.
