United Way Ottawa launches Community Campaign 2013

OTTAWA – United Way Ottawa has announced a $21 million Community Campaign for 2013, broken into three main focus areas.
This year, the campaign focus has been divided into three areas: ‘Growing Up Great,’ ‘Belonging to Community’ and ‘Turning Lives Around.’ The United Way expects to change the lives of more than 76,000 in the Ottawa community through the campaign.
New this year, you can track how donations are helping the United Way reach their campaign goals through a news microsite, resultsthatmatter.ca.
Community Campaign 2013 was launch at held at the Ernst and Young Centre Thursday morning, with the target revealed by campaign co-chairs, philanthropist, Barbara Crook and the President of Hill and Knowlton Canada, Goldy Hyder.
“Each one of us has the ability to make a deep and lasting difference in the lives of other people,” said Barbara Crook. “Collectively, thanks to contributions made to United Way, we helped more than 65,000 people in Ottawa last year.”
Last year’s community campaign target was $30 million and the United Way extended the traditional 10-week campaign in order to allow workplace campaigns to wind up.
Also important to the campaign is the Government of Canada Workplace Campaign, which has a target of $21 million this year. In 2012, the public service raised $21.4 million.
