Fundraiser for paralyzed Shawville hockey player

A freak on-ice accident has left a Shawville Pontiacs hockey player paralyzed from the neck down.
Brett Nugent, 19, suffered a devastating spinal cord injury after crashing head-first into the boards in a collision with a Perth Blue Wings player during a game on Oct. 27.
Brett has already had two surgeries, and doctors say it’s too early for a long term prognosis. For now, Brett remains in serious condition at the Ottawa’s Civic Campus ICU.
Teams and communities from the area are looking to help out and several events are planned, which included one in Perth Friday.
The home game between the Perth Blue Wings and the Ottawa Junior Canadians served as a fundraising event for Brett and his family.
100 per cent of the gate and 50/50 revenues were donated and Perth team owner Michael McLean even matched the money raised dollar for dollar.
