RedBlacks change mascot’s name after three days

OTTAWA — The Ottawa RedBlacks have changed the name of their mascot after only three days.
In a release, the team said some people were offended by the name “Big Joe Mufferaw”, and the mascot will now be known simply as “Big Joe”.
Many were upset at the anglicized name of French folk hero Joseph Montferrand.
The team says it will welcome francophone fans from Gatineau and eastern Ontario, and will continue visiting French schools to expand its fan base.
