Liberals win five local ridings, Progressive Conservatives take two

OTTAWA — All local ridings remained the same on provincial election night.
Incumbents won six of seven local ridings, while newcomer Marie-France Lalonde won Ottawa-Orleans to keep the riding Liberal.
On a night where the Liberals won a majority government five Liberal incumbents won their ridings:
- John Fraser (Ottawa South)
- Yasir Naqvi (Ottawa Centre)
- Bob Chiarelli (Ottawa West-Nepean)
- Madeleine Meilleur(Ottawa Vanier)
The riding of Ottawa West-Nepean was expected to be a battle ground and it was one of the most closely-watched races across the province.
However, former mayor Chiarelli took the riding easily.
“You are my priority, you will stay my priority and I will work as hard as I can to deliver for you,” Chiarelli told supporters who gathered to celebrate with him at Tailgators in the Merivale Mall.
Progressive Conservative candidates Jack MacLaren (Carleton-Mississippi Mills) and Lisa MacLeod (Nepean-Carleton) won their ridings.
It was a bittersweet victory for MacLeod, who was thrilled about her win but disappointed in her party’s overall results.
“We’re going to have to continue to fight this Liberal government on its ethics,” said MacLeod. “But guess what? I’m the girl.”
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson issued a statement congratulating Kathleen Wynne on being elected Premier.
“The Ottawa River Action Plan and our City’s Stage 2 light rail plan were supported, in principle, by all the major provincial political parties,” read the statement, “I know our newly elected Members of Provincial Parliament, of all political stripes, will work together to ensure our city gets its fair share of infrastructure dollars, so Ottawa can continue to be the best place to raise a family and grow a business.”
