Paramedics hurt in Kanata training exercise released from hospital

OTTAWA – Two Ottawa paramedics seriously injured in a training exercise last week in Kanata have been released from hospital.
Superintendent Craig MacInnes and Paramedic Reid Purdy have both been discharged from The Ottawa Hospital where they were receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a joint training exercise on June 18.
“The outpouring of support from the community for our injured paramedics has been truly overwhelming,” said Ottawa Paramedic Chief Anthony Di Monte.
Both men will require ongoing treatment over the coming weeks but are expected to be able to return to regular duties.
The two were initially in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit and were updated to serious condition a short time later.
It is still unknown what went wrong and lead to the explosion during the training exercise with Ottawa paramedics, Ottawa Police and the RCMP.
The Ministry of Labour and the Special Investigation Unit continue their probe of the circumstances surrounding the accident.
