Canada Day: What’s open and closed in Ottawa

OTTAWA – Canada Day 2014 falls on Tuesday, July 1, and the celebration of our country’s 147th birthday means closures around the city.
Shopping/attractions:
Most grocery stores, malls and retail outlets in Ontario and Quebec are closed Tuesday, with some exceptions.
Stores in the ByWard Market and Rideau Centre are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Loblaws and Metro grocery stores on Rideau Street are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Most LCBO stores and Beer Stores are closed Tuesday, while in Quebec, SAQ liquor stores remain open — except for outlets located inside malls.
Banks are closed on Tuesday.

Cumberland Heritage Village Museum
Fairfields Heritage House
City of Ottawa Archives, arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums are closed on Canada Day. However, clients should check ottawa.ca or their facility to confirm holiday hours, as some exceptions may apply.
Client services:
Ottawa City Hall and all seven Client Service Centres, including the Government Service Centre, located at 110 Laurier Ave. are closed on Tuesday. Business will resume as usual on Wed, July 2.
The City’s Provincial Offences Court, located at 100 Constellation Cres., is closed Tuesday. Business will resume as usual on Wed, July 2.
The City’s 311 Contact Centre is open for urgent matters.
Garbage, green bin and recycling collection:
There is no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Canada Day, with pick-up taking place on Wed, July 2. In addition, the collection of green bin, garbage and recycling materials is delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
There is no multi-residential green bin and recycling container collection on Canada Day, with pick-up taking place on Wed, July 2. Collection is also be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. However, multi-residential garbage container collection is not delayed and collection takes place on its regularly scheduled day.
The Trail Waste Facility is closed on Canada Day.
Parking:
All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will apply on Canada Day.
Transit service:
OC Transpo is offering free service on Canada Day and operating a special holiday schedule with extra service during the day and after the fireworks. Routes 101, 102, 120, 123, 137, 150, 151, 161, 173, 178, 202 and all peak period routes are not operating on Canada Day. Click here for more information on holiday schedules and travel planning.
OCTranspo sales and information centres are closed on Canada Day, with the exception of the Rideau Centre office, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The OC Transpo Customer Relations Department (613-842-3600) is closed on Canada Day.
Recreation services:
Some outdoor pools, indoor pools and fitness centres are open for public swimming, as well as fitness classes with modified schedules. Please check with ottawa.ca or the facility of your choice for details.
All beaches, splash pads and some wading pools are open weather permitting.
Ottawa Public Health:
The Ottawa Public Health Information Line (OPHIL) and AIDS line are closed
The SITE Mobile Van will be operating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Canada Day.
Ottawa Public Library:
All branches, departments and services of the Ottawa Public Library are closed for Canada Day. Business will resume as usual on Wed, July 2.
