Giroux issues apology for Canada Day arrest

OTTAWA – Philadelphia Flyers Captain Claude Giroux has issued an apology for his Canada Day arrest in Ottawa after repeatedly grabbing the butt of a police officer.
“I regret my actions on Canada Day and sincerely apologize to my fans, teammates and the Philadelphia Flyers organization for my misguided attempt at humor,” Giroux said in a statement on the Flyers website.
“I have the utmost respect for law enforcement and apologize to the Ottawa Police Department and specifically the individual officer. I will be making no further public comment on this matter.”
Ottawa police may be a little red-faced after sending a media log which detailed media calls to them. That log also showed the police service contacted the Flyers organization to discuss how to handle the arrest.
Police did field more than 150 calls from local national and international media about the alleged butt grabbing incident at the Great Canadian Cabin bar in the ByWard Market.
