Construction worker injured in on-site accident

OTTAWA — A construction worker has been taken to hospital in serious condition after being struck by a piece of machinery.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon at 2200 Prince of Wales Drive when the man fell five feet into a trench after being struck by an excavator’s shovel.

Ottawa firefighters were able to rescue the man, who was also trapped and needed to be extricated, and paramedics then began treatment before taking him to hospital.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was conscious at the time of the accident.
