Three-alarm Stittsville fire displaces three families

OTTAWA — A three-alarm fire in a Stittville townhouse development has seriously damaged two units and caused less serious damage to a third.

The fire broke out in a residence on Abaca Way, just before 6 p.m.

“We had reports that it was spreading to the second unit,” said Ottawa Fire spokesperson Marc Messier.

“Crews have made an aggressive attack on both units and it seems we’ve gotten the majority of the flames knocked down, but we’re far from getting this thing under control.”

A section of Hazeldean near Kittiwake was closed as fire crews ran hoses across the road to battle the blaze. Everything has since re-opened.

None of the residents were injured by the fire, but a total of seven people in three units have been displaced.
