Speeding charge in Gatineau nets big fine

GATINEAU — A man with twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system, was pulled over on a Gatineau highway for driving 70 km/h over the posted speed limit.
Sûreté du Québec stopped the man on Highway 50 near the La Vérendrye exit around 3 a.m. Sunday.
The 27-year-old from Cantley faces a $1,200 charge and he was given 14 demerit points.
His vehicle was impounded for 30 days and his licence was suspended for 90 days.
The man could also face impaired driving charges.
He was released on a promise to appear in court in November.
