Police target weekend party goers in downtown communities

OTTAWA — Ottawa police began a post-frosh blitz on party goers Thursday night.
A total of 56 fines were handed out while 15 criminal charges were laid.
The enforcement project targeted the ByWard Market, Lowertown, Vanier, Sandy Hill and Centretown.
The project will continue over the weekend, aiming to crack down on mischief, aggressive driving, property damage and drug use.
Acting Inspector Michael Laviolette said police will be on bikes and on foot, as well as in cruisers, making sure people don’t get out of hand.
“We will be looking for liquor infractions, aggressive panhandling, trespassing, property damage.” said Laviolette
Between the Panda Game at TD Place Saturday and the wave of new university students in town this weekend, police expect to be very busy.
