OTTAWA – The National Capital Commission is seeking proposals for the development of Lebreton Flats.
The hope is to transform a 9.3 hectare section of land into a destination for all Canadians visiting the capital, the NCC announced Tuesday.
“As the westward neighbour of the Parliamentary Precinct, LeBreton Flats is a prime strategic location for a signature development that will close the loop on the Capital’s ceremonial core,” said NCC CEO Dr. Mark Kristmanson. “We are inviting the private sector to reimagine this exceptional site as a destination for all Canadians who visit their capital city.”
The NCC is also seeking a development planning outlook on a larger area referred to as ‘option lands,’ consisting of an additional 12.3 hectares.
“The time is now to forge LeBreton Flats into a place that will make all Canadians proud of their Capital,” said John Baird, Minister responsible for the NCC.
The NCC will receive proposals until December 5, and have a short list together for February for 2015.
