Ottawa man charged with online extortion, harassment of local women

OTTAWA — An east-end Ottawa man has been arrested and charged with the online extortion and harassment of three young women, but police are concerned there are more victims yet to come forward.
Alexander Miller, 21, of Ottawa was arrested last week after police searched an east-end home. Miller was charged after a two-year police investigation.
“One of the three victims approached police and filed a complaint about her computer being hacked,” explained Cst. Marc Soucy, Ottawa Police. “As a result, the investigation found two more victims.”
The length of time between the first complaint, in January 2012, and last week’s arrest is not unusual, police say, but would not elaborate on the details before the case goes to court.
Police say all three victims are Ottawa women in their 20’s. All of them knew Miller, but none were in a relationship with him.
“There is potentially more victims,” Cst. Soucy told 1310News. “If they recognize [Miller’s] name, or they know if they’ve been dealing with this gentleman, to please give us a call.”

Miller has been released until a court appearance on December 10.
