Winners moving in on Sparks Street

OTTAWA – Winners is coming to Sparks Street this fall, moving into the building that used to house Zellers.
Retail experts say it should breathe some new life into the area, including Ian Lee, with Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business.
But he says they can’t stop there.
“They need to go further to attract and keep people there socializing,” says Lee. “Whether it be outdoor restaurants or something like Winners…..because it’s become this desolate place where you can shoot a cannon after 5 o’clock down the mall, and you probably won’t hit somebody because there’s almost nobody there.”
Lee says part of the problem is that over the years, Public Works Canada has bought up several properties on Sparks Street, and turned them into governemnt office space.
