Inquest begins into death of Barrhaven rugby player Rowan Stringer

OTTAWA – An inquest into the death of a Barrhaven rugby player begins Tuesday.

Rowan Stringer was the captain of her high school rugby team at John McRae Public School when she was tackled during a game on May 8, 2013.

She suffered a critical head injury, and fell into a coma. She had suffered a similar injury in a separate game earlier that week.

After four days in a coma, Stringer was taken off life support. She was 17-years-old.

A five-person inquest will look into her death and recommend ways to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The inquest begins at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall’s Heritage Building.
