OTTAWA–Parents in Lowertown needing replacement day care because of the closure of Beausoleil Child Care Centre will get those spots.
Rideau-Vanier councillor Mathieu Fleury said his office has been working to help families deal with the immediate problem of finding francophone daycare spots.
Once that’s complete he’s looking forward to a discussion about how the issue was handled.
“There’s a lot of lessons that need to be learned on this element–discussions with OCH (Ottawa Community Housing) as an entity and the city and how that was communicated,” Fleury told 1310 NEWS. “It’s still too early to tell if it was appropriately done or if the ball was dropped somewhere but we know that the renovations are starting so lets get those kinds in day care centres nearby.”
Fleury says staff informed him that there is capacity in the neighbourhood for those 47 subsidized daycare spots.
Ottawa Community Housing owns the building at 380 Murray street and Beausoleil occupies the bottom floor.
Re-construction work on the building will take two years to complete.
