Drowning at Barrhaven quarry

OTTAWA — Police divers have pulled a body from the Miron quarry in Barrhaven, after a swimmer disappeared last night.

The body was pulled from the popular swimming area around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Emergency crews had been called to the quarry for a possible drowning, around 8 p.m., Sunday.

Police will not release the identity of the victim as next of kin are still being notified.

The quarry is on private property and is owned by Mattamy Homes. Nearby residents often complain of loud parties in the area.

In July, police issued a number of trespassing tickets to people using the quarry.
