Police officer struck in hit and run; man charged

OTTAWA – An Arnprior man has been charged in connection with a hit and run involving an OPP officer this week.

Around 12:45 am. Wednesday, a police cruiser and officer were hit while the officer was trying to arrest a man on Terry Fox Drive for impaired driving.

The driver fled the scene onto Highway 417, and the car was later found abandoned.

Jason MacDonald, 33, surrendered to police later that day.

He faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, impaired driving, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

MacDonald is due in an Ottawa court on November 25.
