Record breaking Powerball draw hits $800 million

Lottery fever is in full swing in the United States, where the jackpot for Saturday night’s Powerball draw is a staggering $800 million U.S.

Canadians can take part by purchasing tickets through third party websites.

After the exchange the jackpot is worth over $1 billion CDN but if a Canadian wins, 30 per cent U.S. federal tax will be deducted from the winnings.

It’s estimated about 65 per cent of the possible number combinations will have been bought.

If there’s a winner in the United States and they request their money in a lump sum, they’ll get about $300 million U.S. after federal and other taxes.

No one has the winning ticket for the $44 million jackpot in Friday night’s Lotto Max draw.
