Police lay charges in pharmacy robberies

OTTAWA – An Ottawa man has been charged in two recent pharmacy robberies.

Symon Melnick, 20, has been charged with robbery, attempted robbery, wearing a disguise and two counts of breach of probation.

Around 3:15 p.m. on January 30, a man entered a pharmacy in the 1200 block of Greenbank Road and demanded specific drugs. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of narcotics.

Then on February 1, the same man entered the pharmacy inside a grocery store in the 3700 block of Strandherd Road, this time wearing a disguise. He demanded drugs, but fled the scene empty handed after being denied by pharmacy staff.

There were no injuries in either incident.

Police say Melnick had been in custody on another matter and is due in court Monday.
