Six students, three teachers stabbed at Pickering high school

PICKERING, Ont. – A suburban Toronto high school where nine people were injured in a stabbing incident will re-open today.
Six students and three staff members were treated for injuries yesterday after a student wielding two knives ran through the halls of the Pickering, Ontario school slashing at people.
A 14-year-old girl was taken into custody and four people were transported to hospital for treatment, although police said none of the injuries were considered grave.
Durham Region police Sergeant Bill Calder says two staff members wrestled the suspect to the ground and held her until police arrived.
Principal Randy Tennant says the student who entered the school with two knives was immediately detected by other students who began to alert others and he commended them for their courage.
Tennant says support and counselling will be available through the week for students and staff in need of help.
