OTTAWA — The City is now saying the intersection at Sussex and Rideau won’t be open until next week.
On Friday, Mayor Jim Watson said he hoped to see Rideau Street reopened by the end this week.
On Monday, in an email update, City Manager Steve Kanellakos wrote that the Rideau Transit Group is estimating one more week before the intersection at Rideau and Sussex can be opened.
Kanellakos also tells us they’ve learned about 20 metres of water main west of the sinkhole will need to be replaced.
Hydro Ottawa and Bell Canada are scheduled to start work in the sinkhole as soon as the latest round of back-filling is complete.
Traffic closures remain in place on Rideau Street, Wellington Street, Sussex Drive and Colonel By Drive.
The massive sinkhole that opened up two weeks ago also caused flooding in the west section of the LRT tunnel.
Crews are working to remove the water, and excavation is expected to start again sometime this week.
The City says overall, construction remains on schedule.
Also on Monday, Ottawa Public Health lifted all precautionary boil water and do not drink advisories for business on Rideau Street.
Water testing indicates that tap water is now safe to drink.
