BBQ might have helped east end fire spread

OTTAWA — A reminder from the Ottawa Fire Department to be mindful of our barbeques.
A townhouse on Belmore Lane, near Innes Road, was damaged in a fire just after 10:00 Tuesday morning.
Officials say the tank of a nearby barbeque vented, and might have contributed to the fire spreading.
No injuries were reported.
In light of this fire, the fire department has issued some barbeque safety tips:
· Carefully inspect your BBQ to ensure that the burner is free of obstructions, rust or debris
· Ensure that your BBQ is situated at a safe distance from your home. We advise at least 1 metre or 3 feet from siding, wood decks, fences and other combustibles. Also, the BBQ should be clear of overhanging branches and canopies.
· Do not leave the BBQ unattended when in use
