OTTAWA — Traffic is moving a little more smoothly through the Rideau and Sussex area, almost three weeks after the sinkhole opened on Rideau.
In an email Tuesday afternoon, the City Manager updated us on the progress to repair and restore Rideau Street:
“Rideau Street, from Sussex Drive to Dalhousie Street, will remain closed to motorists and cyclists as construction continues on the Confederation Line light rail transit (LRT) project. This restriction has been in place since June 2015 and will remain until 2018.
Additional sections of the Rideau Street and Sussex Drive re-open:
* Southbound lanes of traffic on Sussex Drive between George and Rideau streets will open today allowing for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to travel south on Sussex Drive and west on Wellington Street.
* Southbound traffic on Sussex Drive will be able to travel through the intersection to Colonel By Drive.
* Motorists and cyclists traveling northbound on Colonel By will be able to travel through the Rideau and Sussex intersection and head northbound on Sussex Drive.
* All pedestrian crossings have reopened at the Rideau Street and Sussex Drive intersection.
* All open pedestrian walkways on Rideau Street will now be open at all hours.”
