OTTAWA — Ottawa’s police chief has been cleared of claims of misconduct, by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.
Their investigation started earlier this year, after reports in the media suggested Chief Charles Bordeleau contacted the courthouse to ask about a careless driving case involving his father-in-law.
The charges against his father-in-law were eventually dropped.
On Wednesday, the Ontario Civilian Police Commission has issued a statement saying the evidence supports a finding that Bordeleau did not engage in misconduct, and that he didn’t try to use his position to influence the outcome of the matter, nor to communicate with the prosecutors.
The statement also says the charges against Bordeleau’s father-in-law were dropped because a civilian witness didn’t show up, and there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.
