Fallen firefighters honoured at city hall

OTTAWA – The 15th annual memorial service for fallen firefighters was held at Marion Dewar Plaza on Friday afternoon.

Three firefighters who fell in the line of duty were honoured including Norm Grant.

He passed away, in November 2015, following a long-term illness contracted after years of fighting fires.

“It’s comforting to know that I’m not alone,” said Norm’s wife, Judy Grant. “For my kids it has been comforting to know we’re all in the same boat here, and they’re proud of their father.”

Firefighters marched down Elgin Street on their way to the ceremony outside City Hall.

Fourteen former firefighters, who died over the past year, were also honoured in Friday’s ceremony.
