Minimum wage increase takes effect in Ontario today

Workers making minimum wage in Ontario will see a slight increase in their pay starting today.
Minimum wage goes up from $11.25 to $11.40 an hour, the third consecutive annual increase.
The New Democrats have been calling on Queen’s Park to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour.
The Labour Minister says the government will re-examine the minimum wage in about two years time.
Meanwhile, several labour unions are taking part in a rally in downtown Toronto today.
Organizers expect thousands to attend the “Decent Work Rally” which calls on the province to implement safer working conditions, paid sick days and an end to the gender and racialized wage gap.
