Police probe swastika spray-painted on local synagogue

OTTAWA – For the second time this week, police are investigating racial vandalism in our city.

Police confirm they were called to the Machzikei Hadas synagogue on Virginia Drive around 7 a.m. Thursday, where a swastika had been painted on the side of the building.

Meantime, on Tuesday, Anna Maranta discovered a swastika and an ethic slur spray-painted on the front door of her home, which also serves as the Glebe Minyan, a Jewish gathering space.

Maranta says the graffiti happened sometime between 11 p.m., Monday and 2:45 a.m., Tuesday. She asks anyone with information about the graffiti or the person responsible to contact Ottawa Police.

That graffiti has since been removed.
