Survey says we might see more gifts under the tree this year

By BROCK HUNTER

You might find an extra-big gift under the tree this December.

A recent survey finds Canadians plan on spending quite a bit more compared to last Christmas. Up to $200 more to be exact.

The survey was for Ebates.ca, and marketing director Sari Friedman says people are finding better ways to spend their money through loyalty programs and coupons.

“People are finding so many ways to be more savvy with their dollars, so they’re willing to spend a little bit more because they can find ways to save more.”

In terms of shopping trends this year, Friedman says electronics continue to be a hot item for people.

“Smart home hubs [are big], so buying a nest, or a Samsung smart home hub, virtual reality headsets, and drones.”

She adds most Canadians that plan on shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday say they plan to stay up late so they catch the sales the minute they become available online.
