OTTAWA – City council votes on the draft budget Wednesday.
Property taxes are set to rise two per cent under the spending plan, which means the average urban homeowner will pay an extra $72 for property taxes, while the average rural homeowner will pay an extra $60.
Residents will also see a five per cent rise for water and sewer services, a 2.5 per cent hike to the transit levy and an additional two-dollar fee will be added for garbage disposal.
The draft budget also includes a new low-income transit pass set to be introduced in April 2017
Mayor Jim Watson said the new low-income transit pass will cost $57 per month, roughly half of the regular OC Transpo monthly pass, and it will cost the city $2.7 million per year.
