Jonathan Pitre returns home to prepare for next stem cell transplant

While he awaits a second stem cell transplant, Jonathan Pitre is enjoying time at home with his family.
The 16-year-old had been staying at an apartment in Minnesota with his mother Tina Boileau, with regular trips into hospital for treatment of EB Simplex, a rare and extremely painful skin condition.
His first transplant, using stem cells from Boileau, failed, but experts in the procedure have said a second operation has a better chance of success because the body has been ‘prepared’ for the transplant.
Pitre’s second stem cell transplant, which he found out this week will be covered by OHIP, is scheduled for March.
The transplant is Pitre’s best chance at a better quality of life, and relief from his chronic pain.
Boileau tells the Carol Anne Meehan Show they will return to Minnesota in February.
Tina will also join Mark Sutcliffe on Ottawa Today Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
