Stepmom guilty of abusing stepson sentenced to three years in jail

OTTAWA – The wife of a former Mountie who was found guilty of abusing her stepson has been sentenced to three years in jail.
According to the CBC, the 38-year-old woman must still serve 17 months behind bars with credit for time served.
The woman was found guilty in November of assault with a weapon and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

The boy was tortured and left chained up in the family basement before eventually escaping in 2013 when he was 11-years-old.
The woman’s 45-year-old husband, a former Mountie, was found guilty of aggravated assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and failing to provide the necessaries of life and He is expected to be sentenced in March.
The pair cannot be named because of a publication ban to protect the identity of the victim.
