Fire at Orleans senior home injures one

OTTAWA – One person suffered smoke inhalation in a fire at a long-term care seniors home in Orleans overnight.

Crews responded to the Bruyere’s Saint-Louis Residence at 879 Hiawatha Road just after midnight, where smoke was visible on the third floor of the four-storey building.

The sprinkler system in the building had activated and a working fire was confirmed.

Residents were moved to the first floor of the building while crews fought the fire, which was contained to one room, and under control by 12:30 a.m.

One person was treated by paramedics on scene for smoke inhalation.

There is no word yet on a cause, or a damage estimate.
