Man killed in Queensway crash involving transport and van

OTTAWA – Charges have been laid after a man was killed in a collision between a transport truck and a van on the Queensway.

OPP have identified the victim as Gennadi Brianski, 50, of Carleton Place.

A wheel assembly came off a westbound transport truck, jumped the centre concrete barrier and struck the eastbound van, just before 6 a.m. Friday, on Highway 417 near the Carling/Kirkwood overpass.

Brianski was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brianski’s son, Dennis, posted a message on Facebook about his father, calling him, “the kindest man I’ve ever met in my life.”

Police have charged the driver of the transport, Daniel Mongeon of Gatineau, with operating a vehicle with a detached part. The company that owns the truck, ICB Food Distribution of Ottawa, has been charged with operating an unsafe vehicle.

The highway was closed eastbound for several hours following the crash while the OPP investigated.
