Jonathan Pitre dealing with setback as he awaits second stem cell transplant

OTTAWA – A local teen has travelled back to Minnesota for a second stem cell transplant, and is currently dealing with a setback.
According to Postmedia, Jonathan Pitre, 16, is fighting both a blood and a lung infection.
The second attempt at a transplant from his mother, Tina Boileau, is scheduled for March 8, but if the infections don’t clear up, that may have to be delayed.
Doctors hope a transplant will help to alleviate symptoms of the painful skin disorder EB Simplex, which causes painful blisters all over his body.
Pitre went through his first transplant last fall, and while it failed to take, his doctor has said that second transplants often have a higher success rate.
Tina will joins Mark Sutcliffe on Ottawa Today Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
