OPP distracted driving campaign leads to 2,400 charges

Provincial police have wrapped up a week-long March Break blitz on distracted driving — and the numbers are high.

Officers laid more than 2,400 distracted driving-related charges during their annual campaign.

According to the OPP, there have been 11 deaths caused by distracted driving on Ontario roads so far this year, almost triple the number of deaths compared to this time last year, which was four.

So far this year, there have been nine deaths related to speeding, six related to alcohol or drug use and three seat belt related fatalities.
