Freezing rain hitting Ottawa Sunday

OTTAWA — Slippery roads and sidewalks are in store for the nation’s capital as freezing rain is expected to hit the area Sunday afternoon.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for much of eastern Ontario.

The agency said the freezing rain will persist until around midnight when temperatures are set to rise and the freezing rain will change to rain, lasting into Monday morning.

However, it also said temperatures could take longer to rise in areas around the Ottawa Valley, which could experience freezing rain well past midnight.

All that freezing rain means some slick roads and sidewalks and potentially dangerous travelling conditions.

Ottawa Hydro said it is also monitoring the weather and has crews ready to respond in case of any outages.
