Westjet employee tests positive for measles; Ottawa flight possibly affected

OTTAWA — A Westjet employee has tested positive for measles — and some passengers might have been exposed.

Two of the seven flights that might have been affected either landed or took off from Ottawa. They are:
– WestJet flight WS610, departed Calgary on March 22 bound for Ottawa

– WestJet flight WS369, departed Ottawa on March 22 for Toronto

The airline has started contacting passengers who might have been affected.

According to Ottawa Public Health, there are no reported measles cases in Ottawa, however, they say anyone who hasn’t had measles before should make sure their immunizations are up-to-date.

Anyone born after 1970 requires two measles vaccinations, while anyone born before 1970 is considered immune.

Infants under one, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems can become very ill.

Measles symptoms include a high fever, sore eyes, light sensitivity and a red rash.
