Fire crews battle overnight fire in Mechanicsville

OTTAWA — Firefighters battled an overnight fire in Mechanicsville.

Ottawa Fire crews were called out to a residence at 202 Carruthers Ave. just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday after smoke was reported coming out of a basement unit.

One person was assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are helping residents who were displaced because of the fire.
