Edmonton police investigate terror attack

EDMONTON, AB — The Edmonton Police Service says an attack on an officer outside a football game and a high-speed chase of a U-Haul that left four people injured are being investigated as acts of terrorism.

A vehicle rammed a traffic control barricade outside the Edmonton Eskimos football game at Commonwealth Stadium and sent an officer flying into the air.

The driver of the vehicle then got out and attacked the officer with a knife before fleeing.

A few hours later, a U-Haul van was stopped at an impaired driving checkpoint north of downtown and the driver sped off with police in pursuit.

Police say the U-Haul intentionally swerved at pedestrians in crosswalks injuring four people.

The van eventually rolled and a suspect was arrested.

Police say they think the suspect acted alone, but aren’t ruling out that others may be involved.
