Arson squad probing fatal Barrhaven fire

OTTAWA – The Fire Marshall and the police arson squad have been called in to investigate a fatal fire in Barrhaven.

Crews were called to 43 Elke Dr. around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, and arrived to find heavy smoke on the first floor.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.

A 74-year-old disabled woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two fire fighters were injured as well — one for a cut to their hand one for burns to their ear.
