Annual poppy campaign begins

OTTAWA – The Royal Canadian Legion’s annual poppy campaign leading up to Remembrance Day begins Monday.

Canada’s new Governor General Julie Payette will received the symbolic first poppy at Rideau Hall.

The campaign raises money for veterans and their families in need.

Since 1921, the poppy has been a symbol of remembrance to honour soldiers and military personnel who have lost their lives during war and other combat operations.

Poppies will be available to the public beginning on Friday, October 27.
