OTTAWA — Another tough night for the Ottawa Senators, who lost 2-1 on home ice to the visiting New York Islanders.
About the only positive from Saturday night’s scoresheet was Matt Duchene getting his first point since being traded to Ottawa 21 days ago.
“Obviously it feels nice to get the monkey off [my back],” says Duchene.
“It feels good but it doesn’t feel great because we didn’t get the result we wanted [in the game].”
The latter half of his comments have been heard a lot lately, as last night’s loss is Ottawa’s sixth straight.
But Captain Erik Karlsson says his team simply has to keep plugging along, one game at a time.
“I think you have to stay positive whether it’s going well or it’s not going that well,” explains the captain.
“You’ve got to stay as neutral as possible, and that’s what we’ve been trying to do through this [losing streak].”
The Sens will step away from the ice Sunday before kicking off a seven-game road trip Wednesday night in Montreal.
