Michael Maidment, CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank, said food insecurity is a complex issue that affects thousands of people in the city.

Maidment said, in Ottawa, 6.5 per cent of people are food insecure.

“We really wanted to have a good understanding and pull together a whole bunch of stakeholders around the issue of food security,” said Maidment. “It's not simply a food bank providing emergency food to agencies across the community — there are lots of issues involved.”

Maidment stated people who don't have food security don't have access to healthy, affordable and culturally relevant food.

The conference is being held at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre on Coventry Road from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
