Upper Ottawa Valley snowmobile patrols are underway

By Victoria Williston

Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) patrols are now underway in the Upper Ottawa Valley.

The patrols are conducted by the OPP on several trails in the area.

During a patrol on Jan. 3, around 150 snowmobile riders were checked by the OPP.

Out of those 150 snowmobiles checked, two charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

The charges are as follows:

– Fail to display registration number

– Drive MSV, trail permit not issued

It's not known whether the charges were laid against multiple people.

The OPP would like to remind MSV drivers that they must have proof of insurance, registration, and carry a valid driver's or MSV licence when on a trail.

MSV drivers are also required to have a valid 2019 trail permit to use the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trails.

Snowmobile patrols will continue throughout the winter months in the Upper Ottawa Valley, in an effort to make the trails as safe as possible.

Riders are reminded to obey the speed limit, and to always ride sober.
